Ugh, I think there should be a 2 tweets-per-day rule. I never get on cuz I get a headache!

If I had a genie I'd wish death on everyone who sends vague or whiny tweets. "Great weather", or "I'm sad" - go fuck urselves people : )

[the following is a tweet from @RachelABrewer who I think is/was a fan?]
@HoffmanRobert geez! That was harsh? Ever occur to ya that people may jus get bored? Or that they don't give a fuck what u think??

[Rob's response back to @RachelABrewer]
@RachelABrewer if people didn't give a fuck what I or anyone else thought, they (you) wouldn't put down their bagel to write "nice bagel"@HoffmanRobert well they(I) obviously do give a fuck what you say that's why I follow you! But I always thought you'd be nicer lol :)

Popwrap Interview with Rob Hoffman

Interview with Popwrap:

Robert Hoffman: 'You Can't Punch Doris Roberts In The Heart!'

robert-hoffman-interview.jpg
I've already outed myself (over and over) as an unabashed fan of any movie that revolves around the world of dance. So I was a little bit ahead of the curve in discovering Robert Hoffman.

All right, so I missed him in "From Justin to Kelly" (as most sensible movie goers did) but Robert caught my eye in 2004's "You Got Served" (a movie that netted him an American Choreography Award) and since then every role has been a little bigger, culminating with "Step Up 2" last year.

Now Robert is taking his dance skills from the street to the stars as the first human to fall under the hypnotic spell of some little green men in "Aliens in the Attic." The role gives Robert a chance to apply his physicality in a way like never before (think Jim Carrey) and proves that he's got a lot more to offer Hollywood than back flips.

A fact Robert hopes to drive home with his unscripted MTV show. While I couldn't convince him to teach me "Step Up 2's" climactic rain dance, I did get Robert to reveal what fans can expect his MTV series to look like, why fighting an "Everybody Loves Raymond" veteran is so terrifying and what his dream role would be. Yes!

PopWrap: This movie is so different than anything you've done before, why a family film about aliens?
Robert Hoffman: I was thinking about doing something darker or more dramatic, but it was a conscious decision to do this movie because it doesn't have a little physical comedy, the whole thing is a fantastic exploitation of my physical abilities.

PW: How did the toll that took on your body compare to "Step Up 2"?
Robert: This one brought a lot more surface injuries. A lot of cuts, falling on my face and wounds like that. With dance movies, it's bruised bones and tearing things. But "Step Up 2" had a lot of dancing, and with the added rain element, it was torture. But I'd say it tied with this one, which is interesting because there is no dancing here.

robert-hoffman-fights-doris-roberts.jpg

PW: Just you getting beat up by Doris Roberts.
Robert: She beat the hell out of me, nonstop! They just put us in a room and let the cameras roll. That wasn't fake, Doris can actually fly.

PW: How nervous were you about fighting a 78-year-old?
Robert: I mean, that isn't the kind of scene where you can be like, "oh well, I missed and cranked her in the jaw." No, you can not punch Doris Roberts in the heart, so we were super careful.

robert-hoffman-MTV-show.jpg

PW: With all the stunt work and wire fighting, I'd imagine that was a very labor intense sequence.
Robert: It was hard. I had done some action sequences before but this was a long fight. and I didn't realize how many little shots they have to get, so it's a lot of takes. You don't do the fall on your back twice, you do it 15 times. It's very meticulous. But I love the homages to sci-fi movies and old school video games in it.

PW: Is it true that you named your Urban Ninja after a video game character?
Robert: Absolutely, Ryu Hayabusa from "Ninja Gaiden"! I was so moved as a kid when I'd play that game on NES. So he's Kinetsu Hayabusa.

robert-hoffman-aliens.jpg
PW: When I was a kid, I used to make lots of ridiculous movies with my friends. I take it you were the same way?
Robert: Totally, I just never grew up. I've retained my 12-year-old badassness. I remember when we got our first video camera putting together funny videos for our friends. We liked it so much that this hobby became an obsession and now maybe a profession.

PW: Is there one video you hope never sees the light of day?
Robert: The most embarrassing one is a tape of this play I was in called "Twelve Dancing Princesses," and I was the prince. It's on a VHS in my closet, so no one will ever find it ... unless they taped the play too.

PW: You briefly mentioned turning your obsession with funny videos into a profession, and it's been announced that you're getting an MTV show called "Punch Robert." Will it be like your YouTube videos?
Robert: Yeah, that's the foundation for the show. You'll see some of the videos that I've already made and a bunch that I've been holding back because we wanted to have content for the show. Then we'll shoot the ones that are amazing, but we never had the manpower to make before.

PW: It's a bit of a homecoming for you, having gotten your start on MTV's "Wild n' Out"
Robert: I think "Wild n' Out" was me opening the door and now I'm in the living room with my pants off. The show will be a bit of everything: messing with people in public, pranking people, stunts with my friends, sketches with the characters I've created and more.

robert-hoffman-adorable.jpg
PW: The Miley Cyrus-AC/DC dance battles really opened people's eyes to the kind of dancing you were capable of, will that continue on the show too?
Robert: One hundred percent! All my dancing has some sort of creative element to it. Rarely are any of my routines not spawned by an idea first. And I've always been astounded by what underground kids were doing -- so I'm really excited that the public's aware of that now. It's huge, with shows like "So You Think You Can Dance." Hollywood isn't always the first, but once something surfaces, they're on it.

PW: Does working on the MTV show mean this movie is the last we'll see of you on the big screen for a bit?
Robert: Yeah, but just for a little while. And with any luck this will just heighten my presence in Hollywood and make it even easier for me to get dope roles.

PW: So is there a dream movie, one that you'd kill to make happen?
Robert: Hell yes there is, "Yes Dance: The Movie!" If someone said, "Hey Rob, here's $150 million, go make a movie," I'd say, "gimme $50" and make "Yes Dance" immediately.

PW: So the Yes Dance video [watch it here] is only 4 minutes long, where do you take it from there?
Robert: No, the Yes Dance is how they would win! It would be about James Precious and Kiki coming up in the underground drag balls in New York and they're trying to get the confidence and courage to become a threat at the ball. So you'd go through the adventure and the trials or these new guys trying to own their style, own their sass and finally prevail. It'd be one of the most fantastic movies ever made!

"Aliens in the Attic" is now in theaters and Robert's MTV show debuts late 2009/early 2010.

latimes.com article 7/30/09

Another article from latimes.com:

Robert Hoffman was made to move

The 28-year-old's rubber-boned moves in 'Aliens in the Attic' hint at a lifetime on the go. And then there are the ninja videos.
By Michael Ordoña
July 30, 2009
Some people talk with their hands. Robert Hoffman talks with his fingers extending from the hands, flowing from the arms and the trunk. But the classically trained dancer, award-winning hip-hop choreographer and rubber-boned scene stealer of "Aliens in the Attic" isn't waxing balletic with those dexterous digits; he's describing prank videos in which he scares the bejesus out of total strangers.

"It takes me about a five-day ramp-up to get mentally ready," Hoffman says of shooting his "Urban Ninja" opuses, which have collected millions of hits on various websites. He dons full black ninja gear over his blond hair and hides in public places, waiting to spring out at people. "To know you're going to be going out where there are police officers, gang people, paranoid war veterans that carry guns. . . . One guy turned on a reflex and punched me in the stomach."

The puncher seemed to take it well, however, when Hoffman came back and congratulated him for being the first to strike the prankster.

That goofball streak is apparently genetic.

"My dad is an über practical joker; he has this uncanny knack to create the most awkward situation possible," he says.

The elder Hoffman, who runs a temp agency in Huntsville, Ala., sometimes tells applicants that for their drug test he'll be shooting them with a reactive substance in their elbows -- then produces a giant needle. "Unbelievable. This man is a psycho. So I think that's where I get it from. Also as a kid, I had to deal with being uncomfortable a lot and find light in it. That's taught me to laugh off everything."

In that context, despite being known primarily as a dancer and choreographer, the 28-year-old Hoffman seems a natural for his current role in "Aliens in the Attic." In the comedy, pint-size extraterrestrials plan to invade Earth with only a handful of plucky kids in their way. Hoffman plays a scheming preppy who becomes a spastic automaton controlled (badly) by the unwelcome visitors.

"My whole life has been building my library of creative movement," he says, adding that on the set, "We'd have a premise, then 'He does something funny.' They'd go, 'Rob, what do you want to do?' I'm like, 'Really? I can do a monkey walk here and then prance like a Pussycat Doll, and then what if I bowl over the car and then do a pratfall.' 'Great! Get him a mat!' The pressure was completely off and the support was completely on."

As a rebellious boy growing up in Alabama, Hoffman became fascinated by dance after watching his first Michael Jackson videos.

"Any time I could, I would just move. I would shake my shoulders like Michael; that was part of what I wanted to be," he says, acknowledging that his discomfort in his surroundings was countered by his mother's help.

"I don't think Alabama was the place for me. There are some elements I really love and others I just did not get along with; a kind of blind conviction and a lot of condemnation. Me and the school systems just did not get along."

Fortunately, his mother encouraged formal dance training and enrollment in a fine-arts school: "I was dancing every day, I was focused, I had somebody work with me on schooling in the morning and then just dance all day. I got to go wild creatively.

"As a kid, I think I was hip to a lot of things. I said, 'The people around me are not happy.' These teachers, these preachers, they're not what they preach. Somebody asked me what I'd tell the 12-year-old version of myself. 'You're right, dude. The people around you are nuts.' "

[I'm going to have a hard time keeping up with all the recent articles, so I apologize for not having them all up by now. If you find a good one, then email it to me and I'll post it]

Review of Aliens in the Attic

Review of Aliens in the Attic here:

There’s nothing remotely original or inventive about this Sci-fi comedy in which Aliens bent on destroying the human race invade the Maine vacation home of an upper class suburban family, but the 8 year olds at which it’s aimed will lap it up. For everyone else, this 86 minute, slapstick-laden time waster is a real chore to sit through. Distributor 20th Century Fox did not preview this for critics and has limited expectations for what is bound to be a short box office life on the express lane to a more promising DVD afterlife.

The Pearson Family head off on summer vacation with Dad (Kevin Nealon) and Mom (Gillian Vigman) dragging along their brood. The group includes reluctant teen Tom (Carter Jenkins), his boy-crazy sister Bethany (a bikini-clad Ashley Tisdale), cousin Jake (Austin Robert Butler) and younger sister Hannah (Ashley Boettcher) along with Bethany’s obnoxious and horny boyfriend Ricky (an amusing Robert Hoffman) plus Uncle (Andy Richter) and Grandma (Doris Roberts), among others. In no time, the kids discover a quartet of “evil” aliens on the roof who announce they are bent on zapping humans. Of course, just like in most films of this ilk, the adults are totally clueless while the kids, led by Tom, take on the invaders with all the gusto of Luke Skywalker. Their cause is helped when they are befriended by the one alien in the bunch who promotes a policy of peace.

Much of the comedy comes at the expense of Hoffman’s doofus boyfriend who, early on, becomes the victim of the aliens’ space age controller (which looks like the prop department got it straight out of a Playstation 3 box) that can manipulate physical and mental behavior. Hoffman’s wild contortions had the young tykes in our audience convulsing with laughter. Oh well, as Woody Allen would say, “Whatever Works.” Unfortunately, in an age of such sophisticated CGI-assisted special effects, the actual aliens that have been cooked up here look like something out of a bad ’50s Martian movie and their unfunny dialogue doesn’t help. The bulk of the film contains lots of frantic action, alien vs. teen battles and even one rip-roaring fight with Granny.

Performances are strictly by the numbers, but Tisdale is nice to look at and may draw some High School Musical fans just by her prominently located name on the ads. Hoffman gets the laughs, which is probably why producers tacked on an added scene as end credits start just to milk more of his dopey antics.

After the abysmal I Love You, Beth Cooper, this mindless programmer won’t revive Fox’s early summer momentum (Wolverine, Night At The Museum 2) but for its target pre-pubescent audience, its still a harmless diversion as the dog days of August convene.

Distributor: 20th Century Fox
Cast: Carter Jenkins, Ashley Tisdale, Kevin Nealon, Gillian Vigman, Doris Roberts, Andy Richter, Robert Hoffman, Tim Meadows and Ashley Boettcher.
Director: John Schultz
Screenwriter: Mark Burton and Adam F. Goldberg
Producers: Barry Josephson
Genre: Sci-fi comedy
Rating: PG for action violence, some suggestive humor and language.
Running Time: 86 min
Release Date: July 31, 2009

MTV.com's 2009 Movies That Will Have You Screaming OMG

Aliens in the Attic was listed #4 on MTV.com's Top Ten Movies that will have you screaming OMG or something like that. It seemed like a bogus list to me since it didn't list NM or HP, which had some diehard Twilight and HP fans screaming foul. As a RH fan, even I was screaming foul, because it seemed like the title of the article should have been "Top Ten Movies that May or May Not Do Well at the Box Office But We're Going to Make a List That Includes Them So If They Do Well, Then We Can Say We Predicted It."

Now if the top 3 included New Moon, HP and Watchmen or Transformers or even Bruno (which definitely got a lot of people screaming OMG), then it would've been a more legit list. But as it is, Alvin and the Chipmunks also made the list. *groan*

Hey! I beat him to it! He posted the following clip on his twitter, but a whole day after I posted the same clip (makeup kiss clip). You gotta move faster than that Rob.

Another clip! http://bit.ly/48hYyF =1616280

He also posted the following:
Sooooo... totally unsnapped Ashley Tisdale's bra today. I'm such a badass hahaha.

From @CarterJenkins:
Just finished the press junket for "Aliens in the Attic" with @kevin_nealon @ashleytisdale @HoffmanRobert
From @ashleytisdale:
Doing press for Aliens in the Attic.... @hoffmanrobert is sitting right next to me! O.M.G
@hoffmanrobert just unsnapped my bra in the middle of the interview! But I'm sure it's just a fabricated media romance, like when they would send Keanu Reeves out with Charlize Theron and Sandra Bullock to interview them together to make up for the awkwardness whenever Keanu Reeves interviewed alone (don't get me wrong - I love the guy).

Also, his twitter followers top 15,000 now, which means he gained about 2000 tweeps in a matter of days. Any guesses on how many more will follow him a week after Aliens in the Attic opens? I say he'll gain about 10,000 more. Any other guesses?]

new interview with rob

There's a new article/interview on movieline.com with Rob that is so recent it's still warm. It may help explain why there have been no recent twitter updates from Rob. Here's the text in case the link disappears:

The Verge: Robert Hoffman

roberthoffmanreg.jpgThere are all sorts of entrées into Hollywood stardom (be they model, waiter, or producer’s nephew), but Robert Hoffman went his own way: He moved to LA to pursue work as a dancer. Slowly but surely, his physical talents landed him lead roles in She’s the Man and Step Up 2, and viral videos he conceived in his spare time (like Urban Ninja and the irresistibly bizarre YES Dance) earned him a sketch comedy show in development at MTV. We talked with the actor last week about his eclectic resume and his role in the upcoming Aliens in the Attic, but first, he had to overcome a minor tragedy.

So you lost your iPhone today?
Yeah, I was getting a massage and I lost it. [laughs] So I’m without any sort of scheduling.

Admit it: It’s kind of a nice feeling to be without a phone.
It’s a weird feeling. There’ve been times when I haven’t had a phone and I thought, “This is really awesome, I don’t think I want to go back.” Actually, the first time I lost my phone and I was driving through LA with no distractions, I did think to myself for a second, “I should commit to this! I should fully commit to this.”

You must have been the only person who wasn’t watching the Michael Jackson memorial today.
Were you there?

No, I watched it on TV. But I know he was a big influence on you.
Michael was definitely one of my first and biggest inspirations — without him, my love for movement wouldn’t have been realized nearly as early. Death is such a final step, though. You kind of have to let it go.

You started dancing after you saw his video for “Thriller”?
Yeah. I saw it, and it wasn’t that it registered with me that I wanted to dance — to me, it was the first important thing I had ever seen. It seemed like there was nothing cooler or more wonderful than moving to music. It was just all I could think of as a kid.

When you first began in the industry, you were a background dancer in two notorious Hollywood flops: From Justin to Kelly and Gigli. Which was the better gig?
You know, I gotta be honest with you: Gigli was a really good job. Not that it would win any awards, but I was there on the beach every day in Malibu with a bunch of bikini models. On Justin to Kelly, though, it was a month in Miami with all my dancer friends. So I gotta say, it’s a dead tie. They were both really fun movies to make.

Have you learned anything from dance that’s bled into your work as an actor?
I think dance can be a very tricky thing for actors, because when you dance, you’re at 110% all the time. When you’re acting, though, you have to come at it from a grounded level. But I do think there’s a physical confidence there with dancers. I’ve done a lot of physical comedy jobs where there’s a lot of my movement [background] coming out.

Is your role in Aliens in the Attic like that?
Yeah, I’m Ashley Tisdale’s boyfriend, but for most of the movie I’m under the influence of these alien mind control plugs that shoot in the back of my brain. So I’m a pawn — I’m being physically manipulated and guided by the aliens, and at some point the kids steal the controller and guide me too. I’m doing 110 crazy physical gags, twisting like my body’s being controlled.

Do you ever go too far when you throw yourself into a role that requires so much movement?
Well, shoot! In dancing, please — that’s all we did. We’d throw ourselves too far and do things we probably shouldn’t be doing. In [Aliens], there’s a shot where the kids are controlling me and I come storming through a field, and I said, “I’ll go straight through that bush and fall flat on my face and I won’t even put my hands up to brace myself.” So I bowled over this bush and fell on my chest and my head came down and hit the ground, not too hard, but this bush tore a hole right in my eyelid.

I got up and I kind of felt blood coming down my face, but I had to commit to the shot and not react. The camera’s behind me, and I’m walking along and the two boys are walking with me and I go, “Guys, am I bleeding?” And they’re smiling and laughing, and they’re like, “Yeah.” “Is it bad?” “Oh, yeah.” [Laughs]

aliensattichoffman.jpg

You’re also in Burning Palms, Christopher Landon’s upcoming series of vignettes satirizing five LA neighborhoods. Which hood is yours?
Oh, shoot. Don’t ask me that, I can’t remember right now — that was last year! I’m basically a really dimwitted boyfriend to Jamie Chung, and I have a very specific sexual request to make of her. And that sexual request ends up spinning her into a complete psychotic breakdown.

Let’s go back even further than that…a couple years ago, you acted in Young Americans with Topher Grace and Anna Faris, based on a story Topher co-wrote. The movie’s been on the shelf forever and Topher hasn’t made another film since. Do you know why there’s been such a holdup?
No, I don’t! It’s this great project, and no one understands it. We’ve got all these great actors in it and a great script. There’s a couple of different rumors about why one person in power didn’t think it should go this one time, or someone didn’t like a certain topic, but at the end of the day, it keeps getting held back. Meanwhile, Anna Faris became a big star, and all these things keep happening…there’ve been 101 key times to put this damn movie out. Every time I talk to someone, they’re always like, “Yeah, it’s pretty crazy, but they’re finally putting it out.” “For sure?” “For sure.” That’s all I hear.

Your costar Dan Fogler has implied that some people had problems with all the drug use in the film.
There’s a lot of drug use that happens, but we’ve got a lot of hard R-rated movies that are wildly successful right now. So I don’t know.

Is there anything you haven’t gotten to do in your career yet that you’re itching to do?
All I ever wanted to do was be good at dancing. People told me I could go to LA and make money off it, but I had no clue that any of this would happen. I’m just enjoying the ride, but I have four or five ideas that I’d really like to do. Like, I’d really like to make YES Dance: The Movie. It’d be the funnest thing ever.

My God. What would that even be?
A cross between Zoolander, Paris is Burning, and Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny. ♦

Young Americans: straight to video?

Young Americans might be too controversial for a wide-release, or even a limited release. I wonder if it's slated to go straight to video. It's already posted on amazon.com if you want to reserve your copy. Hmmmm.....

Of course, Burning Palms isn't available on amazon.com yet, but Aliens in the Attic is, and so is Transformers 2 and Ice Age 3, which are both at the tops of the box office for the 4th of July weekend, so I know it doesn't mean anything. But I wonder if it will ever get released.

Burning Palms Interview with Shannen Doherty

Here's an interview with Shannen Doherty about Burning Palms, a movie Rob filmed that's set to release sometime this year. Rob's not mentioned in the video, but Shannen does talk about the movie, so if we were playing 6 Degrees of Rob Hoffman, you'd score with Roseanne Barr (Roseanne co-starred with Sara Gilbert, who is Melissa Gilbert's sister, who co-starred with Michael Landon in Little House on the Prairie, where the role of Jenny Wilder was played by Shannen Doherty, who is in Burning Palms with Robert Hoffman).

Here's a ten minute promo video for Rob's upcoming movie "We Got the Beat" that was posted on youtube in March of 2008. Rob's not in it, but that's because he hadn't been cast yet (he was cast in July of 2008). No word yet on when this will be released.

Aliens in the Attic Nana Trailer

Here's a new trailer for Aliens in the Attic that shows Rob fighting with Nana. After seeing all the trailers, you can see why they cast Rob for this. He's got a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, he loves all this ninja stuff, and when he's being mind-controlled, he can make it look easy without the added expense of special effects or stunt doubles (although I'm pretty sure they used a stunt double for some of the stuff).

Aliens in the Attic Interview

Aliens in the Attic is set to open in a month, and I think there'll be a slew of media and PR as we get closer to July 31. But here's an interview from the MTV Movie Awards with Rob and Carter Jenkins that should tide you over until then.

Here's the transcript in case you can't watch the video:

Transcript: Aliens in the Attic-Robert Hoffman, Carter Jenkins Interview
Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.

Carter Jenkins and Robert Hoffman - Aliens in the Attic

So you're in a summer movie together?

Robert Hoffman: "That's right."

Tell me about it.

Robert Hoffman: "It's called Aliens in the Attic. It's a really fun like family adventure comedy about a bunch of little scary aliens trying to take over the world and we have to fight them off. Ashley Tisdale's in the film too."

Okay, scary little aliens - describe these guys for me.

Carter Jenkins: "They're green. They're CGI."

Robert Hoffman: "Armed."

Carter Jenkins: "Arms as in weapons or?"

Robert Hoffman: "Uh huh. Arms."

Carter Jenkins: "They also have - a couple of them have four arms, I think. I don't know. When we shot the movie, they were not there. They are computerized."

How tough is it to work opposite something that's not there?

Carter Jenkins: "It's interesting. You have to use your imagination. It feels a little funny sometimes because you're reacting to nothing. You feel a little silly sometimes, but when they put it in and you see it put together with aliens, then it looks great."

Did they have something there in place of the aliens?

Carter Jenkins: "Yeah, a lot of times they'd have a stick if it's like moving so we'd all have the same eye line, or a piece of tape. They did have the little model aliens that they lined up the shots with for the CGI shots, but we didn't get to really react to it. They're just dolls."

So the tone of it is family so we're not going to be freaked out by these aliens?

Robert Hoffman: "No, it's all fun. It's a little bit of scary, but that's not the gig. The gig is fun and funny."

Carter Jenkins: "Kids and families will enjoy it."

Robert Hoffman: "They end up controlling my mind and I turn into this crazy zombie thing. And then they get ahold of the controller and make me do all kinds of crazy moves and stuff like that."

Did I hear you're also doing something with MTV?

Robert Hoffman: "No. I mean it's something that's trying to happen. There's nothing to be said yet."

Rob Hoffman at the Playboy Mansion

Rob attended an event at the Playboy Mansion called the 2nd Annual Financially Hung Game Day on 2/1/2009. Financially Hung is a company that puts together events where regular people can pay a fee to party with celebrities and hang out at places like the Playboy Mansion, or get discovered, or just feel better about themselves by tweeting about their escapades. Judging from the photos, this event appeared to be just paparazzi bait. And Rob isn't one to turn down a party, is he?

Here's a photo of Rob from the event. [Again, love the hair off the forehead Rob!]

Random Rob Hoffman

I think this is the kind of stuff Rob wants to do for his MTV Pilot.

warning! foul language and partial nudity (just Rob) in this one!

Rob and his Good Buddy K-Fed

While Rob was in New Zealand filming Aliens in the Attic, he stopped by a radio station called The Edge to do an on-air interview. I don't know what he said, but apparently, he said some disparaging remarks about Kevin Federline because it appeared on a page on their website they like to call Scandal.

So, unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to click on the AUDIO button which will allow me to hear what he had to say, but here's the text that they tease you with:

Yesterday we had Robert Hoffman III in studio. He’s the star of Step Up 2: The Streets and the new movie being filmed in NZ that Ashley Tisdale is starring in. He’s a dancer and after the interview, I asked him if he had ever met Kevin Federline….

Robert and Kevin were both in "You Got Served" so I know they've met, but I can't tell you what he thinks of the guy.

Behind the Scenes with ACDC and Rob Hoffman

Behind the scenes footage of the ACDC (Adam/Chu Dance Crew: Adam Sevani and Jon Chu) who are currently battling it out on youtube with the M&M Dance Crew (Miley Cyrus and her friend Mandy). Look for Rob coming in through the door at 2:00 and he talks a bit with the cameraman and another dancer. Not sure, but I think this was behind the scenes during the web commercial for SU2 that Jon Chu shot with Madd Chadd.

Is he talking about this? Or is he referring to this? And quite possibly--but I doubt it--he could be talking about this. Who knows?

"Train your ass off." - Robert Hoffman

Here's an interview with Rob for performersecrets.com. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... He's very articulate and very well-spoken. I like that he's really pushing a good strong work ethic because I think a lot of young people are lacking that these days and they just expect to be handed all the swag they can carry because they feel like they're entitled to it or something. So, good message Rob. "Train your ass off." I like that.

Las Vegas Tweets

I actually boarded a party bus and took it to Vegas for the weekend. Eyeyeye hahaha.Ok so the party bus to vegas for one night turned into 3 days of limited sobriety. Finally headin home dayum!I must stay the trainwreck who was with that was constantly faceplanting made it all worth it hahaha. Epic trainwreck.

Judging by all the typos and the huh? reaction that I'm sure most of you got while reading that last one, I think he's either still drunk or majorly hungover.

I think what he was trying to say was:
I must say, the trainwreck who I was with, that was constantly faceplanting, made it all worth it hahaha. Epic trainwreck. [see what a few strategically placed commas will do?]

Step It Up and Dance

Did you know Rob was a guest judge on Episode 3 of the short-lived Bravo reality show Step It Up and Dance? I didn't even realize a show like that existed. I found a video of the episode but for some reason, I can't play it. Can anyone else see it? But here are two preview videos that show little clips including some comments he made as a judge. [I thought he was very articulate in his comments, and sounded like he knew what he was talking about. He was being pretty brutally honest, and I wonder if the dancers - some of whom are highly trained - realized that Rob isn't just some actor who just happens to know how to dance, or even one of those dancers who are self-taught. He's a ninja ballerina dude].

Here's another video I could embed, but if you can watch the two preview videos [links are above] than watch that:

Silversun Pickups

Rob is always singing the praises of the Silversun Pickups. I'd never heard of them before, but thought I'd check them out to see what all the fuss was about.

And I have to say, I really like their music! They really do sound a lot like Smashing Pumpkins. Incidentally, Rob used their song Little Lover's So Polite for his Carnival performance in January 2009 (which I won't link to because it's really racy). When I first watched it, I really thought it was a Weezer song I'd never heard before.

In 2006, the Silversun Pickups made an appearance on Dave Letterman where they performed Lazy Eye (and they're really good live, not that animated, but their sound is very similar to their recordings - not overly reverbed). I don't know where the video was shot, but it reminded me of this bar in Santa Monica I used to go to in college, and the story that played out in the video was so familiar it was scary - the bar, the red curtains on the wall, the retro furniture. Except it was a beat up Nissan Sentra instead of a cool motorcycle at the end. And the bar was filled with fraternity boys. And the band playing was this old guy who used to sing Van Morrison and Jimmy Buffett covers.

But I digress.

This is my favorite song of theirs (and the video was directed by none other than Joaquin Phoenix:

I?

Rob was in a short movie that Wade Robson wrote and directed called I? in 2005. There's a really emotional scene in the middle and Rob did a great job portraying the frustration and anger with his situation. I really wish he would do more serious stuff. Like Riley in Eclipse (which he'd be perfect for)! You can see the trailer and a few behind the scenes photos on Wade's website.

Video of HK Basketball Game on 6.6.09

A few videos have been posted of the Hollywood Knights basketball game at Woodbridge High. This video is mostly of Josh Hutcherson, but you can see Rob at :45 come in from the side and do a little dance (don't look for some mind-blowing moves here) and later you can see him holding up a cheerleader (the photo of this is posted on the HK website). The following video shows that memorable moment that she'll tell her grandkids about someday:

Here's another video from that night:

Urban Ninja 2 Article

A little article in a U.K. pub about Urban Ninja 2.

By Andrea Clarke
A YOUTUBE movie filmed in Derry has received over a million hits.

The spoof ninja flick shows American actor Rob Hoffman running around the city dressed in black scaring unsuspecting locals.

The funny man was filming Dublin director Paddy Breathnach’s horror movie Shrooms when he decided to don his urban ninja costume.

Hoffman, who is a cast member on MTV’s Wild ‘N Out, writes, directs, and stars in several short skits, most notably Kinetsu Hayabusa the Urban Ninja, in which he dresses in a black ninja outfit and performs stunts around a city to the fright of passers by.

The second in a series of short mockumentaries about Kinetsu Hayabusa, Urban Ninja II was filmed in Northern Ireland.

Rob can be seen in Derry’s Waterside, the city’s shops, the Walls of Derry and also in the neighbouring County Donegal jumping out in front of cars and pedestrians.

The ninja skits have garnered Hoffman, who is also a dancer and choreographer, a large fan following, with over 1.2 million hits on YouTube for Urban Ninja II alone.

One Northern Ireland fan posted: “I was literally across the street when he jumped out from behind the wall at that girl who ran away, it was deadly craic! Mucho respect to the urban ninja”!

[As of 6/9/09, the video has now received 4,679,379 hits on youtube. My guess is that Urban Ninja 3 was filmed in New Zealand (just a random feeling I have). As great as these videos are, it would be hard for Rob to translate this into the big screen, or even the small screen - and he's said as much in other articles. As more and more people see his videos, it's going to get harder to pull it off. That's what happened to Tom Green once his show hit MTV. He couldn't pull his pranks anymore, and unless Rob does what @aplusk did and hires actors to punk the ignorant, it's not going to work. And who wants to see other actors do this stuff? I'd rather see Rob.]

Christian George Video?

On Christian George's website, he's got an entry about Rob and Urban Ninja. But, he's also embedded a cool video that I think shows him dancing with Rob that was originally posted on youtube called "Christian George Diary x Robert Hoffman." But, alas, it has disappeared somewhere into the ethereal world of 404s. The screen cap shows him and Rob in what looks like a dance studio with a blonde leaning against the wall and some kid sitting in the corner with a toy. Pretty random.

But hey, I don't judge other mothers and the choices they make. That totally could've been my kid sitting there. I've been there. "Here, play with this toy that you had to have because that commercial targeted 3 year olds and I didn't want anyone to see my kid lose it in the middle of Walmart. And have some of these yummy highly processed snacks that I never let you have before. Mmmmm... cheesy. It's a special treat because mommy has to work right now on the computer. Just sit here until mommy's all done working, okay? And when I'm all done, I'll even let you have one of those juice boxes made with water, corn syrup and food dye! That's a good girl." [And I'm kidding, of course. I would never force my 3 year old to sit in a corner. I'd let her run outside and play unsupervised in the front yard because kids don't get enough fresh air these days.]

But, back to the video... I found the video on Christian's youtube channel, but it's marked private. Whatever. Someone needs to repost.

Photos from Hollywood Knights Game

Photos from the Hollywood Knights basketball game at Woodbridge High are up now, but so far, no youtube videos have surfaced. I don't know if Rob kept his promise to bowl over a cheerleader, but he did lay across their laps during the group photo, and in one shot, he picked one up (she looked absolutely thrilled about that).

He also had his index and middle fingers taped together on his left hand. Never played basketball so I don't know if it's to help him shoot or if they were bothering him. When you scroll through all the photos, look for the orange shoes. That's Rob.

C0stell0 @HoffmanRobert i'd wanna see you R rated..or X rated..SAY WHAAA?! but seriously, when youre ready to release a celeb sex tape, let me know
about 21 hours ago from web

And just in one day, Rob has added over 300 tweeps! As of 6/8/09 10:38 pm, his tweeps are numbering 7222. Oh, make that 7223, he just added another. Oh, wait. As of 10:39 pm, it's now 7224. Nope, 7225.

Wow. He's really blowing up big time, isn't he?

[oh, and Rob, punctuation always goes inside the quotes. just a pet peeve of mine]

Twilight

According to reports all over the internet, Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter of the Twilight saga, has publicly stated that she would like to see Channing Tatum in the role of Riley, the newborn vampire in Eclipse. Personally, I think Rob would make a much better Riley [And yes, I have read all four books. I've even read the partial ms for Midnight Sun]. Riley is described as someone young, a guy who was just looking to party when he was changed. He didn't want to fight Edward. Other than constantly lusting after human blood, he's still looking for the party. Channing is just way too intense. I think Rob would bring a certain amount of innocence to the role. What do you think?

And in related news... (sort of)

Rob and Briana upheld tradition last year, and recreated their kiss in the rain when they accepted the award for Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards last year. Although, I thought their kiss on the show was much more passionate than their kiss in SU2. It seemed to me that Rob was taken off guard a little bit when Briana turned around and grabbed him, almost like he was just messing with her and he kind of expected her to slap him or tell him to stop (playfully, of course). And there's just something so sexy about Rob and Briana kissing, as opposed to Chase and Andie exchanging saliva.

So when Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart won Best Kiss this year, of course everyone thought they were going to kiss. But, we were all left hanging at the end when their lips did not lock. Alas, a tradition has been broken by the Twilight stars [see how good I am at bringing it all full circle?]

According to the New York Post rankings, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams' 2005 acceptance kiss ranks #1, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair's 2000 sapphic smooch comes in at #2, and Rob and Briana's kiss takes #3. Who knew the Post keeps track of these things? You can see the #1 and #3 kisses here.

Shrooms

Rob was in a horror movie called Shrooms where he plays Bluto, a jock who's on steroids.

Interesting trivia about this movie:

1. it was filmed in Ireland where he filmed Urban Ninja 2.
2. the movie also stars Maya Hazen who played the girl ninja in UN2.
3. Alice Greczyn was also in this movie
4. Oscar Orosco, who plays the rival ninja in UN2 was in You Got Served with Rob [but that's not interesting trivia about Shrooms is it? Well, I'm not sure what he was doing in Ireland. Maybe those scenes were shot later?]

Here's an excerpt from the Shrooms press kit:

And anyone who thinks filmmaking is all about glamour would do well to meet Alice Greczyn at the end of a shooting day. ‘’It isn’t so glamorous!’’ she laughs. ‘’But it’s hard to complain because it’s such a fun, interesting job and you get to meet so many cool people. The day-to-day grind is very draining. Your body can only take so much mud, moss and fake blood!’’ While most of the young American actors met for the first time on the set of Shrooms, Alice did spot one familiar face. ‘’I knew Rob before, from working on a TV show in America [that show was Quintuplets], so that was kind of fun, bumping into him again. I didn’t know anyone else, but we pretty much got along great right from the beginning. Everyone’s been really cool and really friendly.’’

The Rob in question is Robert Hoffman. The 25-five-year-old Floridian is a professional dancer who has also made his mark in the world of improvised comedy. Portraying Bluto was a challenging experience for the young actor. “Bluto is the outcast of the group,’’ says Rob. ‘’He’s like the steroid head, arrogant, Jock-ish kind of guy. Bluto is just there to have fun with his girlfriend. He’s not interested in anyone else. It’s when he heads off to do mushrooms on his own that he gets into a whole world of trouble. I really liked the character of Bluto but then I liked all the characters. The script really appealed to me. I liked the twists and I liked the way it was a horror story with a difference.’’

In portraying the maverick of the group, Rob feels he benefited from the fact that he arrived in Ireland a little bit later than the other cast members. ‘’The rest of the guys had been together for a week before I arrived,’’ he explains, ‘’and that made it easier for me to feel like the outsider of the group. I knew Alice from when we worked together on a US show but it’s always fun to make a movie with a bunch of people who are all around the same age. We all took to each other really quickly and hung out, and all that stuff.’

Unlike his fellow actors, Rob Hoffman has experience of working on stage and his comedy pedigree meant he was no slouch when it came to improvising lines. He brought that experience to bear on SHROOMS. ‘’I always try to respect what the writer has put on the page,’’ says Rob, ‘’but the script wasn’t carved in stone. We could toy with it a little but not too much. I work on improv shows back in the States but I don’t like to toy with other people’s work. That said, Paddy did allow me to throw in a couple of lines here and there, so that was cool.’’

N0mee posted a clip on youtube with just Rob's scenes in the movie [warning: foul language and sexual situations].

Step Up 3D

According to Jon Chu's twitter, they are currently filming Step Up 3D in New York City. Without Rob. Wha???? Not even a cameo?

Here's an official blurb from a casting site:
When the Maryland School of the Arts (MSA) goes to Paris for an international dance competition, one of the dancers - Moose - misses his flight back to Baltimore. He soon makes friends with an American away from home and a beautiful French sophisticate. They introduce Moose to the red-hot Parisan underground dance scene, and before long he is wowing the local dancers with his unique moves as they prepare for an underground dance competition. With time running out before the big event and their routine stolen by a rival crew, Moose turns to his loyal MSA crew in Baltimore for help. Can Moose, the MSA crew and the French crew pull together a new dance number at the last minute? And will it be good enough to beat the world’s best street dancers?

The film stars Adam Sevani (From Step Up 2) and Alyson Stoner (from Step Up), Sharni Vinson as Natalie, Rick Malambri as Luke, and Stephen Boss in the role of Jason. So, my guess is that Chase and Andie have graduated and live happily ever after.

It'll be interesting to see how SU3D does at the box office. SU2 did better than SU earning $148,424,320 vs. $114,194,847 [source: box office mojo], so we'll just have to wait and see how SU3D does. Opening date: 8/6/2010.

Now, just a personal observation... I've heard in interviews with Rob that he was the one that suggested they look at Adam Sevani for Step Up 2 as Moose, who was originally supposed to be an overweight African American according to the original script. Adam sent in an audition tape and he was cast as Moose. In this interview with Jon Chu, he says, "We even got people off Youtube, like Adam Sevani [who plays "Moose"], he was a friend of Robert's and Robert had him record himself and send it to me. When I saw the video, I was like 'that's the guy!'" Rob also hired Adam to be in some of his Carnival performances when he was really young (he looks like he's 12 in one of them). Now, I thought it was pretty interesting to note that Rob follows Adam on Twitter, but Adam doesn't follow Rob. Hmmmm... just an innocent oversight?

[I'm not going to link to any of Rob's videos that I think might be offensive to some of the younger fans - including the videos of Adam performing with Rob at Carnival - but you can find them on youtube yourself.]

Hollywood Knights Game 6/6/09

Rob is slated to attend the Hollywood Knights basketball game at Woodbridge High in Irvine, CA tonight at 6:00 pm. I'm not sure it's an open event, but you can call the school at 949-936-7845 to find out. It's apparently a fundraiser for the junior class and will pit the Hollywood Knights against the faculty.

Ticket sales: $8.00 Pre-sale, $10.00 at the door, Children under 5 for free. Tickets can be purchased from the Activities Office from June 1st – 5th. But again, I'm not sure this event is open to the public.

[UPDATE: Rob tweeted the following on 6/6/09]
Headin to Woodbridge High in Irvine to play a charity celeb bball game at 6 come join! I promis to accidentally bowl over a cheerleader haha

So hopefully some of you made it out there to cheer him on. Who knows, maybe he'll do some more magic tricks for you!

Casting Call for Step Up 2

I found this on a casting website. When the call when out, I think Rob was already cast as Chase (who was originally supposed to be Patrick, according to this. PATRICK!). It gives some great insight into what the story was supposed to be before some minor changes were made.

[ANDIE] Female, any ethnicity, 18-25 years old. Andie is bursting at the seams with potential of being the best Bgirl in town. She's young, determined and has plenty of personality to spare. While she may act tough and confident, deep down she is a lost soul as she tries to find her place in the world. Andie may know all the fancy tricks, and the flashy moves to win dance battles but
what she soon discovers is she needs to know herself and deal with the inner demons that hold her back before she can truly be a great dancer. When she is accepted to the highly reputable performing arts high school, MSA, she discovers not only herself but also who her true friends and family are and what it takes to keep them. MUST BE AN ACCOMPLISHED DANCER LEAD

[MOOSE] Male, Caucasian, 18-25 years old. Attends MSA, and immediately befriends Andie. Think a skater version of Anthony Michael Hall from Sixteen Candles. Funny, a little awkward, but loyal to the brim, Moose will probably be the CEO of some giant computer company one day, but for now, he'sthe guy girls love but never date. Although most assume he's at MSA to study lighting design, he is actually an unbelievable dancer because of his childhood infatuation with Michael Jackson. He surprises everyone and becomes the secret weapon of the MSA dance team that hopes to compete in the underground dance battle called The Streets. MUST BE AN ACCOMPLISHED DANCER LEAD

[SOPHIE DONOVAN] Female, Caucasian, 18-25 years old. She attends MSA and is the ULTIMATE female dancer. She's been training for years in all forms of dance (Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical, etc) and she is killer in all of them. She is extremely focused, extremely ambitious and doesn't have many friends because of it. She's not mean, she just doesn't have time for it and people are intimidated (think Sandra Oh's character from Grey's Anatomy). The one person she did date a couple years back was Patrick (Robert Hoffman) so she gets particularly jealous when Andie comes into the picture. However, in the end she learns to let go and eventually respects Andie. MUST BE AN ACCOMPLISHED DANCER SUPPORTING

[TUCK] Male, African-American, 23 years old. He is the leader of the 410 underground dance team and the organizer of The Streets competition. MUST BE AN ACCOMPLISHED DANCER SUPPORTING

[DJ SAND] Male, any ethnicity, 20-25 years old. Spins for the local club, Dragon and is in charge of making the battles more interesting by adding props such as trampolines, or treadmills. In the end, it is Sand (aka Sandman) that goes against the status quo and helps get the MSA team a chance to perform. SUPPORTING

[BLAKE] Male, Caucasian, 25-30 years old. Patrick's older brother, he was the star dancer at MSA when he attended years ago and has since gone off to be a very successful Hollywood choreographer. The students are in awe of him and the mothers are in love with him. He's come back to teach a master class for one year at his alma mater, but sparks fly when Patrick starts to feel overshadowed by his brother like he has his whole life. Must have dance ability. SUPPORTING

[DIRECTOR CYNTHIA MANNING] Female, any ethnicity, 30-40 years old. She is the new Creative Director at MSA. She is pushing the highly successful school into the next level by spearheading the multimillion-dollar expansion out of the city and recruiting high-level choreographers such as Blake to teach and add cache to the programs. She has shifted the focus of the school from the art and tradition of dance to the real-world appliance of booking the job or getting the agent. The parents love her because she is truly a visionary of creating the ultimate dancer factory but purists would find her revolting. CAMEO

STORY LINE: Having grown up in the Maryland School of the Arts, Patrick Collins (18) feels creatively confined by the restraints of the now, more than ever, commercialized school. He hears of a legendary, underground team dance battle that happens every year called The Streets that only locals have access to (think Fight Club but for dance) and he is by no means a local. When Andie West (17), a B-girl who is part of the best team that competes in The Streets starts to attend MSA, sparks fly and Patrick is let into the underbelly of the Baltimore dance scene. Rather than about an outsider coming in, this is about an insider breaking out taking dance out of the studio and back to the streets where it all began. It's about defining who you are and
discovering where you belong.
