Aliens in the Attic Interview

Aliens in the Attic is set to open in a month, and I think there'll be a slew of media and PR as we get closer to July 31. But here's an interview from the MTV Movie Awards with Rob and Carter Jenkins that should tide you over until then.

Here's the transcript in case you can't watch the video:

Transcript: Aliens in the Attic-Robert Hoffman, Carter Jenkins Interview
Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.

Carter Jenkins and Robert Hoffman - Aliens in the Attic

So you're in a summer movie together?

Robert Hoffman: "That's right."

Tell me about it.

Robert Hoffman: "It's called Aliens in the Attic. It's a really fun like family adventure comedy about a bunch of little scary aliens trying to take over the world and we have to fight them off. Ashley Tisdale's in the film too."

Okay, scary little aliens - describe these guys for me.

Carter Jenkins: "They're green. They're CGI."

Robert Hoffman: "Armed."

Carter Jenkins: "Arms as in weapons or?"

Robert Hoffman: "Uh huh. Arms."

Carter Jenkins: "They also have - a couple of them have four arms, I think. I don't know. When we shot the movie, they were not there. They are computerized."

How tough is it to work opposite something that's not there?

Carter Jenkins: "It's interesting. You have to use your imagination. It feels a little funny sometimes because you're reacting to nothing. You feel a little silly sometimes, but when they put it in and you see it put together with aliens, then it looks great."

Did they have something there in place of the aliens?

Carter Jenkins: "Yeah, a lot of times they'd have a stick if it's like moving so we'd all have the same eye line, or a piece of tape. They did have the little model aliens that they lined up the shots with for the CGI shots, but we didn't get to really react to it. They're just dolls."

So the tone of it is family so we're not going to be freaked out by these aliens?

Robert Hoffman: "No, it's all fun. It's a little bit of scary, but that's not the gig. The gig is fun and funny."

Carter Jenkins: "Kids and families will enjoy it."

Robert Hoffman: "They end up controlling my mind and I turn into this crazy zombie thing. And then they get ahold of the controller and make me do all kinds of crazy moves and stuff like that."

Did I hear you're also doing something with MTV?

Robert Hoffman: "No. I mean it's something that's trying to happen. There's nothing to be said yet."

Rob Hoffman at the Playboy Mansion

Rob attended an event at the Playboy Mansion called the 2nd Annual Financially Hung Game Day on 2/1/2009. Financially Hung is a company that puts together events where regular people can pay a fee to party with celebrities and hang out at places like the Playboy Mansion, or get discovered, or just feel better about themselves by tweeting about their escapades. Judging from the photos, this event appeared to be just paparazzi bait. And Rob isn't one to turn down a party, is he?

Here's a photo of Rob from the event. [Again, love the hair off the forehead Rob!]

Random Rob Hoffman

I think this is the kind of stuff Rob wants to do for his MTV Pilot.

warning! foul language and partial nudity (just Rob) in this one!

Rob and his Good Buddy K-Fed

While Rob was in New Zealand filming Aliens in the Attic, he stopped by a radio station called The Edge to do an on-air interview. I don't know what he said, but apparently, he said some disparaging remarks about Kevin Federline because it appeared on a page on their website they like to call Scandal.

So, unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to click on the AUDIO button which will allow me to hear what he had to say, but here's the text that they tease you with:

Yesterday we had Robert Hoffman III in studio. He’s the star of Step Up 2: The Streets and the new movie being filmed in NZ that Ashley Tisdale is starring in. He’s a dancer and after the interview, I asked him if he had ever met Kevin Federline….

Robert and Kevin were both in "You Got Served" so I know they've met, but I can't tell you what he thinks of the guy.

Behind the Scenes with ACDC and Rob Hoffman

Behind the scenes footage of the ACDC (Adam/Chu Dance Crew: Adam Sevani and Jon Chu) who are currently battling it out on youtube with the M&M Dance Crew (Miley Cyrus and her friend Mandy). Look for Rob coming in through the door at 2:00 and he talks a bit with the cameraman and another dancer. Not sure, but I think this was behind the scenes during the web commercial for SU2 that Jon Chu shot with Madd Chadd.

Is he talking about this? Or is he referring to this? And quite possibly--but I doubt it--he could be talking about this. Who knows?

"Train your ass off." - Robert Hoffman

Here's an interview with Rob for performersecrets.com. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... He's very articulate and very well-spoken. I like that he's really pushing a good strong work ethic because I think a lot of young people are lacking that these days and they just expect to be handed all the swag they can carry because they feel like they're entitled to it or something. So, good message Rob. "Train your ass off." I like that.

Las Vegas Tweets

I actually boarded a party bus and took it to Vegas for the weekend. Eyeyeye hahaha.Ok so the party bus to vegas for one night turned into 3 days of limited sobriety. Finally headin home dayum!I must stay the trainwreck who was with that was constantly faceplanting made it all worth it hahaha. Epic trainwreck.

Judging by all the typos and the huh? reaction that I'm sure most of you got while reading that last one, I think he's either still drunk or majorly hungover.

I think what he was trying to say was:
I must say, the trainwreck who I was with, that was constantly faceplanting, made it all worth it hahaha. Epic trainwreck. [see what a few strategically placed commas will do?]

Step It Up and Dance

Did you know Rob was a guest judge on Episode 3 of the short-lived Bravo reality show Step It Up and Dance? I didn't even realize a show like that existed. I found a video of the episode but for some reason, I can't play it. Can anyone else see it? But here are two preview videos that show little clips including some comments he made as a judge. [I thought he was very articulate in his comments, and sounded like he knew what he was talking about. He was being pretty brutally honest, and I wonder if the dancers - some of whom are highly trained - realized that Rob isn't just some actor who just happens to know how to dance, or even one of those dancers who are self-taught. He's a ninja ballerina dude].

Here's another video I could embed, but if you can watch the two preview videos [links are above] than watch that:

Silversun Pickups

Rob is always singing the praises of the Silversun Pickups. I'd never heard of them before, but thought I'd check them out to see what all the fuss was about.

And I have to say, I really like their music! They really do sound a lot like Smashing Pumpkins. Incidentally, Rob used their song Little Lover's So Polite for his Carnival performance in January 2009 (which I won't link to because it's really racy). When I first watched it, I really thought it was a Weezer song I'd never heard before.

In 2006, the Silversun Pickups made an appearance on Dave Letterman where they performed Lazy Eye (and they're really good live, not that animated, but their sound is very similar to their recordings - not overly reverbed). I don't know where the video was shot, but it reminded me of this bar in Santa Monica I used to go to in college, and the story that played out in the video was so familiar it was scary - the bar, the red curtains on the wall, the retro furniture. Except it was a beat up Nissan Sentra instead of a cool motorcycle at the end. And the bar was filled with fraternity boys. And the band playing was this old guy who used to sing Van Morrison and Jimmy Buffett covers.

But I digress.

This is my favorite song of theirs (and the video was directed by none other than Joaquin Phoenix:

I?

Rob was in a short movie that Wade Robson wrote and directed called I? in 2005. There's a really emotional scene in the middle and Rob did a great job portraying the frustration and anger with his situation. I really wish he would do more serious stuff. Like Riley in Eclipse (which he'd be perfect for)! You can see the trailer and a few behind the scenes photos on Wade's website.

Video of HK Basketball Game on 6.6.09

A few videos have been posted of the Hollywood Knights basketball game at Woodbridge High. This video is mostly of Josh Hutcherson, but you can see Rob at :45 come in from the side and do a little dance (don't look for some mind-blowing moves here) and later you can see him holding up a cheerleader (the photo of this is posted on the HK website). The following video shows that memorable moment that she'll tell her grandkids about someday:

Here's another video from that night:

The video from the MTV Movie Awards that was 404 for a while is back on. This is about Rob talking about the lady calling him a douchebag. Look for Rob at around 1:30.

Urban Ninja 2 Article

A little article in a U.K. pub about Urban Ninja 2.

By Andrea Clarke
A YOUTUBE movie filmed in Derry has received over a million hits.

The spoof ninja flick shows American actor Rob Hoffman running around the city dressed in black scaring unsuspecting locals.

The funny man was filming Dublin director Paddy Breathnach’s horror movie Shrooms when he decided to don his urban ninja costume.

Hoffman, who is a cast member on MTV’s Wild ‘N Out, writes, directs, and stars in several short skits, most notably Kinetsu Hayabusa the Urban Ninja, in which he dresses in a black ninja outfit and performs stunts around a city to the fright of passers by.

The second in a series of short mockumentaries about Kinetsu Hayabusa, Urban Ninja II was filmed in Northern Ireland.

Rob can be seen in Derry’s Waterside, the city’s shops, the Walls of Derry and also in the neighbouring County Donegal jumping out in front of cars and pedestrians.

The ninja skits have garnered Hoffman, who is also a dancer and choreographer, a large fan following, with over 1.2 million hits on YouTube for Urban Ninja II alone.

One Northern Ireland fan posted: “I was literally across the street when he jumped out from behind the wall at that girl who ran away, it was deadly craic! Mucho respect to the urban ninja”!

[As of 6/9/09, the video has now received 4,679,379 hits on youtube. My guess is that Urban Ninja 3 was filmed in New Zealand (just a random feeling I have). As great as these videos are, it would be hard for Rob to translate this into the big screen, or even the small screen - and he's said as much in other articles. As more and more people see his videos, it's going to get harder to pull it off. That's what happened to Tom Green once his show hit MTV. He couldn't pull his pranks anymore, and unless Rob does what @aplusk did and hires actors to punk the ignorant, it's not going to work. And who wants to see other actors do this stuff? I'd rather see Rob.]

Christian George Video?

On Christian George's website, he's got an entry about Rob and Urban Ninja. But, he's also embedded a cool video that I think shows him dancing with Rob that was originally posted on youtube called "Christian George Diary x Robert Hoffman." But, alas, it has disappeared somewhere into the ethereal world of 404s. The screen cap shows him and Rob in what looks like a dance studio with a blonde leaning against the wall and some kid sitting in the corner with a toy. Pretty random.

But hey, I don't judge other mothers and the choices they make. That totally could've been my kid sitting there. I've been there. "Here, play with this toy that you had to have because that commercial targeted 3 year olds and I didn't want anyone to see my kid lose it in the middle of Walmart. And have some of these yummy highly processed snacks that I never let you have before. Mmmmm... cheesy. It's a special treat because mommy has to work right now on the computer. Just sit here until mommy's all done working, okay? And when I'm all done, I'll even let you have one of those juice boxes made with water, corn syrup and food dye! That's a good girl." [And I'm kidding, of course. I would never force my 3 year old to sit in a corner. I'd let her run outside and play unsupervised in the front yard because kids don't get enough fresh air these days.]

But, back to the video... I found the video on Christian's youtube channel, but it's marked private. Whatever. Someone needs to repost.

Photos from Hollywood Knights Game

Photos from the Hollywood Knights basketball game at Woodbridge High are up now, but so far, no youtube videos have surfaced. I don't know if Rob kept his promise to bowl over a cheerleader, but he did lay across their laps during the group photo, and in one shot, he picked one up (she looked absolutely thrilled about that).

He also had his index and middle fingers taped together on his left hand. Never played basketball so I don't know if it's to help him shoot or if they were bothering him. When you scroll through all the photos, look for the orange shoes. That's Rob.

C0stell0 @HoffmanRobert i'd wanna see you R rated..or X rated..SAY WHAAA?! but seriously, when youre ready to release a celeb sex tape, let me know
about 21 hours ago from web

And just in one day, Rob has added over 300 tweeps! As of 6/8/09 10:38 pm, his tweeps are numbering 7222. Oh, make that 7223, he just added another. Oh, wait. As of 10:39 pm, it's now 7224. Nope, 7225.

Wow. He's really blowing up big time, isn't he?

[oh, and Rob, punctuation always goes inside the quotes. just a pet peeve of mine]

Twilight

According to reports all over the internet, Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter of the Twilight saga, has publicly stated that she would like to see Channing Tatum in the role of Riley, the newborn vampire in Eclipse. Personally, I think Rob would make a much better Riley [And yes, I have read all four books. I've even read the partial ms for Midnight Sun]. Riley is described as someone young, a guy who was just looking to party when he was changed. He didn't want to fight Edward. Other than constantly lusting after human blood, he's still looking for the party. Channing is just way too intense. I think Rob would bring a certain amount of innocence to the role. What do you think?

And in related news... (sort of)

Rob and Briana upheld tradition last year, and recreated their kiss in the rain when they accepted the award for Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards last year. Although, I thought their kiss on the show was much more passionate than their kiss in SU2. It seemed to me that Rob was taken off guard a little bit when Briana turned around and grabbed him, almost like he was just messing with her and he kind of expected her to slap him or tell him to stop (playfully, of course). And there's just something so sexy about Rob and Briana kissing, as opposed to Chase and Andie exchanging saliva.

So when Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart won Best Kiss this year, of course everyone thought they were going to kiss. But, we were all left hanging at the end when their lips did not lock. Alas, a tradition has been broken by the Twilight stars [see how good I am at bringing it all full circle?]

According to the New York Post rankings, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams' 2005 acceptance kiss ranks #1, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair's 2000 sapphic smooch comes in at #2, and Rob and Briana's kiss takes #3. Who knew the Post keeps track of these things? You can see the #1 and #3 kisses here.

Shrooms

Rob was in a horror movie called Shrooms where he plays Bluto, a jock who's on steroids.

Interesting trivia about this movie:

1. it was filmed in Ireland where he filmed Urban Ninja 2.
2. the movie also stars Maya Hazen who played the girl ninja in UN2.
3. Alice Greczyn was also in this movie
4. Oscar Orosco, who plays the rival ninja in UN2 was in You Got Served with Rob [but that's not interesting trivia about Shrooms is it? Well, I'm not sure what he was doing in Ireland. Maybe those scenes were shot later?]

Here's an excerpt from the Shrooms press kit:

And anyone who thinks filmmaking is all about glamour would do well to meet Alice Greczyn at the end of a shooting day. ‘’It isn’t so glamorous!’’ she laughs. ‘’But it’s hard to complain because it’s such a fun, interesting job and you get to meet so many cool people. The day-to-day grind is very draining. Your body can only take so much mud, moss and fake blood!’’ While most of the young American actors met for the first time on the set of Shrooms, Alice did spot one familiar face. ‘’I knew Rob before, from working on a TV show in America [that show was Quintuplets], so that was kind of fun, bumping into him again. I didn’t know anyone else, but we pretty much got along great right from the beginning. Everyone’s been really cool and really friendly.’’

The Rob in question is Robert Hoffman. The 25-five-year-old Floridian is a professional dancer who has also made his mark in the world of improvised comedy. Portraying Bluto was a challenging experience for the young actor. “Bluto is the outcast of the group,’’ says Rob. ‘’He’s like the steroid head, arrogant, Jock-ish kind of guy. Bluto is just there to have fun with his girlfriend. He’s not interested in anyone else. It’s when he heads off to do mushrooms on his own that he gets into a whole world of trouble. I really liked the character of Bluto but then I liked all the characters. The script really appealed to me. I liked the twists and I liked the way it was a horror story with a difference.’’

In portraying the maverick of the group, Rob feels he benefited from the fact that he arrived in Ireland a little bit later than the other cast members. ‘’The rest of the guys had been together for a week before I arrived,’’ he explains, ‘’and that made it easier for me to feel like the outsider of the group. I knew Alice from when we worked together on a US show but it’s always fun to make a movie with a bunch of people who are all around the same age. We all took to each other really quickly and hung out, and all that stuff.’

Unlike his fellow actors, Rob Hoffman has experience of working on stage and his comedy pedigree meant he was no slouch when it came to improvising lines. He brought that experience to bear on SHROOMS. ‘’I always try to respect what the writer has put on the page,’’ says Rob, ‘’but the script wasn’t carved in stone. We could toy with it a little but not too much. I work on improv shows back in the States but I don’t like to toy with other people’s work. That said, Paddy did allow me to throw in a couple of lines here and there, so that was cool.’’

N0mee posted a clip on youtube with just Rob's scenes in the movie [warning: foul language and sexual situations].

Step Up 3D

According to Jon Chu's twitter, they are currently filming Step Up 3D in New York City. Without Rob. Wha???? Not even a cameo?

Here's an official blurb from a casting site:
When the Maryland School of the Arts (MSA) goes to Paris for an international dance competition, one of the dancers - Moose - misses his flight back to Baltimore. He soon makes friends with an American away from home and a beautiful French sophisticate. They introduce Moose to the red-hot Parisan underground dance scene, and before long he is wowing the local dancers with his unique moves as they prepare for an underground dance competition. With time running out before the big event and their routine stolen by a rival crew, Moose turns to his loyal MSA crew in Baltimore for help. Can Moose, the MSA crew and the French crew pull together a new dance number at the last minute? And will it be good enough to beat the world’s best street dancers?

The film stars Adam Sevani (From Step Up 2) and Alyson Stoner (from Step Up), Sharni Vinson as Natalie, Rick Malambri as Luke, and Stephen Boss in the role of Jason. So, my guess is that Chase and Andie have graduated and live happily ever after.

It'll be interesting to see how SU3D does at the box office. SU2 did better than SU earning $148,424,320 vs. $114,194,847 [source: box office mojo], so we'll just have to wait and see how SU3D does. Opening date: 8/6/2010.

Now, just a personal observation... I've heard in interviews with Rob that he was the one that suggested they look at Adam Sevani for Step Up 2 as Moose, who was originally supposed to be an overweight African American according to the original script. Adam sent in an audition tape and he was cast as Moose. In this interview with Jon Chu, he says, "We even got people off Youtube, like Adam Sevani [who plays "Moose"], he was a friend of Robert's and Robert had him record himself and send it to me. When I saw the video, I was like 'that's the guy!'" Rob also hired Adam to be in some of his Carnival performances when he was really young (he looks like he's 12 in one of them). Now, I thought it was pretty interesting to note that Rob follows Adam on Twitter, but Adam doesn't follow Rob. Hmmmm... just an innocent oversight?

[I'm not going to link to any of Rob's videos that I think might be offensive to some of the younger fans - including the videos of Adam performing with Rob at Carnival - but you can find them on youtube yourself.]

Hollywood Knights Game 6/6/09

Rob is slated to attend the Hollywood Knights basketball game at Woodbridge High in Irvine, CA tonight at 6:00 pm. I'm not sure it's an open event, but you can call the school at 949-936-7845 to find out. It's apparently a fundraiser for the junior class and will pit the Hollywood Knights against the faculty.

Ticket sales: $8.00 Pre-sale, $10.00 at the door, Children under 5 for free. Tickets can be purchased from the Activities Office from June 1st – 5th. But again, I'm not sure this event is open to the public.

[UPDATE: Rob tweeted the following on 6/6/09]
Headin to Woodbridge High in Irvine to play a charity celeb bball game at 6 come join! I promis to accidentally bowl over a cheerleader haha

So hopefully some of you made it out there to cheer him on. Who knows, maybe he'll do some more magic tricks for you!

Casting Call for Step Up 2

I found this on a casting website. When the call when out, I think Rob was already cast as Chase (who was originally supposed to be Patrick, according to this. PATRICK!). It gives some great insight into what the story was supposed to be before some minor changes were made.

[ANDIE] Female, any ethnicity, 18-25 years old. Andie is bursting at the seams with potential of being the best Bgirl in town. She's young, determined and has plenty of personality to spare. While she may act tough and confident, deep down she is a lost soul as she tries to find her place in the world. Andie may know all the fancy tricks, and the flashy moves to win dance battles but
what she soon discovers is she needs to know herself and deal with the inner demons that hold her back before she can truly be a great dancer. When she is accepted to the highly reputable performing arts high school, MSA, she discovers not only herself but also who her true friends and family are and what it takes to keep them. MUST BE AN ACCOMPLISHED DANCER LEAD

[MOOSE] Male, Caucasian, 18-25 years old. Attends MSA, and immediately befriends Andie. Think a skater version of Anthony Michael Hall from Sixteen Candles. Funny, a little awkward, but loyal to the brim, Moose will probably be the CEO of some giant computer company one day, but for now, he'sthe guy girls love but never date. Although most assume he's at MSA to study lighting design, he is actually an unbelievable dancer because of his childhood infatuation with Michael Jackson. He surprises everyone and becomes the secret weapon of the MSA dance team that hopes to compete in the underground dance battle called The Streets. MUST BE AN ACCOMPLISHED DANCER LEAD

[SOPHIE DONOVAN] Female, Caucasian, 18-25 years old. She attends MSA and is the ULTIMATE female dancer. She's been training for years in all forms of dance (Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical, etc) and she is killer in all of them. She is extremely focused, extremely ambitious and doesn't have many friends because of it. She's not mean, she just doesn't have time for it and people are intimidated (think Sandra Oh's character from Grey's Anatomy). The one person she did date a couple years back was Patrick (Robert Hoffman) so she gets particularly jealous when Andie comes into the picture. However, in the end she learns to let go and eventually respects Andie. MUST BE AN ACCOMPLISHED DANCER SUPPORTING

[TUCK] Male, African-American, 23 years old. He is the leader of the 410 underground dance team and the organizer of The Streets competition. MUST BE AN ACCOMPLISHED DANCER SUPPORTING

[DJ SAND] Male, any ethnicity, 20-25 years old. Spins for the local club, Dragon and is in charge of making the battles more interesting by adding props such as trampolines, or treadmills. In the end, it is Sand (aka Sandman) that goes against the status quo and helps get the MSA team a chance to perform. SUPPORTING

[BLAKE] Male, Caucasian, 25-30 years old. Patrick's older brother, he was the star dancer at MSA when he attended years ago and has since gone off to be a very successful Hollywood choreographer. The students are in awe of him and the mothers are in love with him. He's come back to teach a master class for one year at his alma mater, but sparks fly when Patrick starts to feel overshadowed by his brother like he has his whole life. Must have dance ability. SUPPORTING

[DIRECTOR CYNTHIA MANNING] Female, any ethnicity, 30-40 years old. She is the new Creative Director at MSA. She is pushing the highly successful school into the next level by spearheading the multimillion-dollar expansion out of the city and recruiting high-level choreographers such as Blake to teach and add cache to the programs. She has shifted the focus of the school from the art and tradition of dance to the real-world appliance of booking the job or getting the agent. The parents love her because she is truly a visionary of creating the ultimate dancer factory but purists would find her revolting. CAMEO

STORY LINE: Having grown up in the Maryland School of the Arts, Patrick Collins (18) feels creatively confined by the restraints of the now, more than ever, commercialized school. He hears of a legendary, underground team dance battle that happens every year called The Streets that only locals have access to (think Fight Club but for dance) and he is by no means a local. When Andie West (17), a B-girl who is part of the best team that competes in The Streets starts to attend MSA, sparks fly and Patrick is let into the underbelly of the Baltimore dance scene. Rather than about an outsider coming in, this is about an insider breaking out taking dance out of the studio and back to the streets where it all began. It's about defining who you are and
discovering where you belong.

T.A.D.S.

One of Rob's videos is called T.A.D.S. or Touching Another Dude Softly. It's funny and features the handycam skills of Carter Jenkins, his costar from Aliens in the Attic.

My husband had to actually leave the room because the video made him so uncomfortable, but I made him sit through it. Which got me thinking...

What is it about guys touching other guys that makes guys squirm? I hug all my girlfriends, and guy friends, and I say "I love you" to all my female friends. I've only heard my husband say "I love you" only a handful of times to someone outside of family, and that was when he was a pledge in a fraternity and going through hell week. And he always said it in a manly way: "I love you, man" and always with something like "thanks, bro" thrown in afterwards. (And incidentally, the purpose of hazing is to force guys to bond with each other - it's the same strategy used in the military by drill sargeants to get the guys to want to die for each other). He has only hugged a few guys, and always with the obligatory three pats on the back (which stands for I'm. Not. Gay.)

Now, since I know that it was filmed last year, and since I know they're using a green screen during filming, and since I know Carter Jenkins was the camera man, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this was filmed in New Zealand (plus he's wearing the same Michigan shirt he was wearing in the Boogizone NZ video). Which is very important to note here (not the shirt - go Wolverines - but the fact that he's in New Zealand).

Because guys in the states are typically more squeamish about touching other guys, even the ones who go out and demonstrate for Prop 8 and tout the positive attributes of gay marriage. But guys in other cultures have no qualms whatsoever about holding hands with their friends (in some Asian countries), or kissing other guys on the cheek (in some European countries) or just embracing them to show their support or to celebrate, or to just say, "you're my friend."

And if this video was shot on the set of Aliens in the Attic, then the psychology of human nature tells us that they're not going to call him out because they know him, and in the hierarchy of a movie set, the actors rank pretty high. If this happened in an office setting, and a supervisor started touching one of the peons in the mail room, the mail guy would not punch out the supervisor. He'd probably sue for sexual harassment, but in the moment, he wouldn't do anything about it for fear of losing his job, or getting arrested, or creating a scene or whatever.

Also, all these guys know Rob, but not really well. They all probably went home and told their wives or girlfriends about this weird guy Rob. If it was a complete stranger, then I can picture fists flying.

But still, it's a hilarious video:

Class for the Kiwis

While Rob was in New Zealand filming Aliens in the Attic, he taught a Boogiezone Community Class on May 1, 2008.

He taught them the dance he did in the Random Halloween Video [in that video, he does a funny dramatic scene in the beginning where he's actually saying the 4th verse of Beat It, then it's a lot of gassy humor - thought I'd warn you - and then he does the killer dance at the end.]

[There were some really good dancers in the class, but once you see Rob dancing with them, you realize just how good he really is. I mean, of course, he's an amazing dancer, but when he performs, even if it's just for a class, he really puts himself out there. There are no halfway moves with him, no cheating. And no one can do a chest pump like Rob. I'd love to see him do it with his shirt off. And also, he uses sound effects sometimes when he's going through an eight count. I took a hip hop class with a friend of mine who used to dance with Prince and Madonna, and she did the same thing - it drove me crazy. I need to know the eight counts dammit! She said hardly any choreographers use complete eight counts nowadays, it's all timed to the music, which has a lot of syncopated beats and pauses. Also, his hair is really blond in this, I wonder if he had to dye it for Aliens in the Attic.]

Long Interview with Popstar

But the best video was removed for violating terms of service.

Basically, Hollyscoop asked Robert Hoffman what was the best WTF moment for him, and he replied, "A lady [at the beginning of the line] asked me what my name was and I told her Chad Michael Murray, and she got really mad at me and told me that my picture wasn't going to get posted unless I told her my name. And I said, 'Sorry, it was my one joke of the day,' and she yelled 'that douchebag isn't going to get his picture posted because he didn't tell me his name!'"

That's not verbatim but that was the gist of what he said. His imitation of the lady yelling was pretty funny, too. I don't know who the interviewer was, but she was pretty clueless. She actually said, "You're not Chad Michael Murray?" and he looked at her with this bemused look on his face and said, "No, I'm Robert Hoffman. I'm not on One Tree Hill" and she said, "Oh, well that's good to know. I was about to ask you about your divorce." The look Rob gave her was priceless. But like a true professional, he just kept talking and wasn't rude to her or anything (like Downtown Julie Brown when Stuttering John asked her who she was just to mess with her and she got all huffy on him).

And here's a video from MTV Australia, that apparently I'm not allowed to watch here in the states. It's an interview of Rob by Christian Siriano. Maybe someone in Australia can watch it and post in the comments section what they said.

WEB ARTICLES and INTERVIEWS
From Popstar:
The Kings of Leon might have ruled the stage at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards but Robert Hoffman and Carter Jenkins without a doubt ruled the red carpet. The two charismatic actors hit the red carpet with a mission; talk with everyone and have a great time! Rob and Carter are both staring in the new film Aliens in the Attic alongside Ashley Tisdale and Andy Richter. PopStar nabbed the two actors as they headed inside and talked about all the hottest summer flicks.

PopStar: Can you tell us about your upcoming film Aliens in the Attic?
Carter Jenkins: It is a fun family adventure comedy with us and Ashley Tisdale fighting aliens.

PopStar: What summer movie besides Aliens in the Attic are you looking forward to seeing?
Robert Hoffman: I feel like everything has come out that I was excited to see.
Carter Jenkins: I am kinda excited about Transformers.

PopStar: So what summer movies that already came out did you guys love?
Robert Hoffman: Oh man, there was so many big ones! Star Trek was great. Some people tried to bag on Wolverines but I loved it. Terminator was really fun and Up was awesome.

From 7x7

Robert Hoffman and Carter Jenkins from the upcoming, Aliens in the Attic. Rob starred in last year’s Step Up 2: The Streets, and Carter has been in Keeping Up With the Steins, and on television shows like Surface.

7x7: Are you guys excited for tonight?
Rob: I was here last year – I got the Best Kiss award.

7x7: That’s exciting – are you maybe gonna rush the stage tonight and try to re-enact it?
Rob: Maybe I should

7x7: (To Carter): You should probably watch out.
Rob: If the right girl is on stage, maybe I’ll go up and try to steal her.

7x7: Are you guys rooting for anyone in particular tonight? (Long pause) You guys are such Zac Efron fans, I can tell.
Rob (laughing) Well, I was gonna say, we both talked about this and I think we’re most excited to hopefully run into the Jonas Brothers.

7x7: You’re Team Jonas.

Carter: I’m crossing my fingers right now. You can’t see it, but…
Rob: There’s word on the street that there’s gonna be a Jonas Brothers/Hanson duet onstage tonight.

7x7: Shut up. I thought you were gonna say battle rap or something, with Eminem.

Rob: Actually, there’s gonna be a sword fight between the Jonas Brothers – and I mean a legitimate ninja sword fight – between the Jonas Brothers and Hanson.

7x7: Bringing back the Hanson reference, nice. What music is on your guys’ iPods right now
Rob: I cannot get my fill of Silversun Pickups.
Carter: Yeah, he just got me into Silversun Pickups and I really like ‘em. And I’m really excited about Kings of Leon.

7x7: I was gonna say, are you excited to watch them perform?
Carter: I love K.O.L. I’m seeing them in August.

7x7: How about Eminem?
Robert: I’m excited. I think he’s a really brilliant lyricist. I love what he brings to the table.
Carter: Yeah, I’m pretty happy about that too.

Everyone's seen the usual press shots of Rob that are all over the internet. Well, here are some rare ones that you may or may not have seen before. I've linked to the ones I couldn't post here directly. [And please remember that I don't own the copyrights to any of these photos, and neither do you. I know this is Rob because the caption said it was Rob and because of the necklace he's wearing. You can see the tape he put on the bottoms of his shoes for traction on the dance floor:

I love this photo of Rob. I think it was taken in 2005 and was taken when he was arriving at some event.

Rob's Manager and Nicole Richie

Rob was initially approached by his manager Michael Baum after he saw him at Carnival. When asked how he met him, he is quoted as saying:

At the ‘Served’ wrap party, Michael Baum said ‘I saw you at Carnival; I had to meet the guy who walked around like he owned the place’, and gave me his card. I never called; I had no idea how powerful h
e was, but he tracked me down and said ‘let me represent you.’

If you google Michael Baum, nothing comes up. And I mean nothing. But I was able to find this on some website from India of all places:

New York (ANI): American socialite Nicole Richie has dropped former manager Benny Medina, after she got fed up with his meddling. Medina had shut down his Handprint Entertainment in January, but Richie kept his associate Michael Baum as her manager, with her former manager staying on as a consultant. Last week sources revealed that Richie, who had had enough of Medina's meddling, let him go. “I closed a deal on a clothing line for her but I'm a pay-for-play consultant. A gun for hire,” the New York Post quoted Medina, who still works with Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, as saying. “If something comes across my desk, I'll call, but I'm not holding purses anymore,” he added. Richie's representatives have declined to comment on the matter.

Here's a photo Rob posted on Twitter of his manager, whom he affectionately referred to as the retard Michael Baum. Awwww, how sweet!

Interview from 2005 or 2006

I found an old interview Rob did with some guy named Juan Guerra on a website called Boy Saw the Comet. Pretty good interview with new information, but it's old. Wild N Out was still running which means it's from 2005 or 2006. After She's the Man, but before Step Up 2.

Here's the text in case the link disappears [and all typos are Juan's!]:

Robert Hoffman the third has proven to Hollywood that he not only has talent, but he's multi-talented! Dancing, improv and acting, what more can you ask for? With a few tv/film credits under his belt with She's The Man, FOX's Vanished, MTV's Wild N' Out and You've Got Served, Robert is going to high places in the entertainment industry. He says he's addicted to making people laugh, and that's what he'll keep doing for a long, successful career. That's right folks, he's got staying power!

Juan Guerra: How did you get on MTV's Wild N' Out? How was the audition process?

Robert Hoffman: I auditioned like everyone else to get on Wild 'N Out, but I dont think it hurt at all that I was friends with DJ D-Wrek before hand and hang met Nick Cannon at a few parties where I was acting like a maniac. At the audition, we had to 1. Do a rap, 2. show 3 characters, 3, be prepared to improv as any given celebrity. Well, none of those things are foreign to me and aparently the audition went well.

Juan Guerra: What are your current projects (tv and film)?

Robert Hoffman: Right now Wild 'N Out is airing every Thurs. night on MTV, and Vanished is airing every Monday night on FOX after Prison Break.

Juan Guerra: What's the idea behind Urban Ninja 2? Is this a project you would like see progress into a film on the silver screen? - Your videos are awesome!

Robert Hoffman: Honestly, I wouldn't have any problem with seeing Urban Ninja going to a TV series or film, but I personally have no drive to take it there myself. Urban Ninja and all my videos are my passion and I need nothing more than to have them spread all over the internet and to have the satisfaction of knowing that I am rocking peoples funny bones. Nothing makes me happier. Of course, I would love to have my own variety show on TV in which case Urban Ninja would fall right into place without any adjustments, but if it were to become it's own show or film, it's format would probably have to undergo some adjustments, I think UN is best the way it is.

Juan Guerra: How was working with Amanda Bynes and how did you get the role in "She's the Man"?

Robert Hoffman: I can's ay enough about Amanda. Very solid, sweet, humble girl. Again, I got that job like everyone else through an audition. I do think I may have gotten a small one up when Amanda (who was at the audition) had to use the rest room during my audition so I had more face time to get to know the director and producer.

Juan Guerra: If you had to choose a specific acting role, what would it be and why?

Robert Hoffman: Well, I have been saying I want to do something military for a while, but that's just so I can finally buzz my hair for the first time in my life. Otherwise, I think the role's I want to do most, and know I would be best at, are any of my comedic characters, or myself in the story of my life.

Juan Guerra: PunchRobert.com is your official website and you have videos that you've made. Which one is your most favorite that you've done and why?

Robert Hoffman: Oh jeez, that is a hard question... I definitely can't asnwer that. I like them all equally. No, no way. I mean, for the sake of the question let's just say Urban Ninja. It is a killer adrenalyn ride making it. It is SO scary going out not knowing whether I am gonna get shot at or beat up when I jump out at some dude - although after like the first 5 takes I get in a zone and become like a totally focused NINJA MAN. Then editing it is just as fun, finally clicking play and watching all that work come together to some AWESOME song and watching my friends laugh and be amazed at the crazy stuff I did.

Juan Guerra: You're currently on Fox's "Vanished." Tell me about your character and the story of the show?

Robert Hoffman: Vanished revolves around the dissapearance of a Senators daughter and the unraveling of the conspiracy/mystery around it. I play the cameraman/lover of an ambitious reporter played by Rebecca Gayheart.

Juan Guerra: Are there any plans in the futue of producing your own films?

Robert Hoffman: Well, I kinda do already per say. I mean, they are all short films. The only thing missing is a huge budget, but that's not something that I am aiming for at this point cause I dont wanna do anything that takes the fun out. I believe my videos are good because I have fun making them. If I start going around looking for funding and pitching to studios and whatnot, then I think it kinda ruins the integrity you know? I already have an audience, and I already have what I need to make good stuff, so why waste time asking for more? To get famous? People who wanna be famous aren't as good as people who just wanna entertain people. NOW, if someone comes along who likes my stuff and has the know-how and money to bring my stuff to a larger audience, then hell yea I'm in.

Juan Guerra: Since one of your passions is dancing, "You Got Served" was the perfect vechile for you. How was that experience for you?

Robert Hoffman: After doing You Got Served became a hit, there was a point where I was lying in my bed, and I realized I had already accomplished my life's dream of moving people all around the world with my dancing. I was stoked of course, but also a little worried. What would I do next? Well, fortunately I had the acting role in YGS and was able to meet a great manager who broke me into the acting business which is a whole new monster in itself. Hopefully one day I will be able to bring dancing into my acting in a way even bigger than YGS ( You Got Served).

Fundraiser for Unicef

Rob attended a fundraising event cohosted by Nicole Richie and Joel Madden through their Richie-Madden Children's Foundation with Sony Cierge for UNICEF's Tap Project, which helps provide clean and accessible water to children around the world, at Hollywood hotspot MyHouse on March 23, 2009. Here is a photo of him from the event. I have to say I like his hair up and off his forehead much better. What do you think? Up or down and messy?

Article in Variety from February 2008

Just found an amazing article in Variety about Rob. He cracks me up, and this awesome photo accompanied the article. Awesome because I've never seen it before.

And in case the link disappears, here's the text:

Robert James Hoffman III, who stars in “Step Up 2 the Streets”

Book I’m reading:
I can’t stay focused on a book so I do audio books and I love researching stuff on the internet. I’m just starting into “The Art of Happiness” by the Dalai Lama right now but I have to say the last one I finished, “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle, changed my life forever.

Total number of books I own:
Under 30 books have collected in my little section in the hallway - a lot are joke books, mind teasers, or artists’ collections (H.R. Giger, Frank Frazetta, a Rudolph Nureyev photo book)

Three books that mean a lot to me:
“The Power Of Now” times three. It is the most profound information I have ever encountered in my whole life and if I had one wish it would be for everyone in the world to have read it. I have no doubt the world would be no less than 50% improved in every aspect if they had. It’s such a simple and obvious perspective that most people unfortunately never even have the privilege of even hearing about... It’s so FREAKIN awesome. Ok I sound like a hippy. Damn.

Last film I saw:
“Cinema Paradiso,” directed by Giuseppe Tornatore

Films that mean a lot to me:
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Pan’s Labyrinth,” “Jack,” “The Bear,” “Borat,” “Welcome To The Dollhouse” and “Closer.” Sorry couldn’t do three. (Each of those had big impacts in very different ways.)

Who do you think is the best actor in Hollywood at the moment? (male or female)
Again can’t stop at 1. And I could never label someone as the “best” at an art- but I can say that I am most entertained watching these people in character: Johnny Depp, Will Ferrell, and Sacha Baron Cohen, Nick Swardson, and Michael McDonald. (Surprise surprise...)

If you could play any real-life person in a movie, who would it be and why?

My dad. He is FASCINATING. The depth of his troubles, the extremities of his showing out, the amount of work he’s done on himself... When interviewing new employees at his workplace, my dad will pull out a syringe and say, “ok gimmie your elbow”. When they ask why he tells them it’s for the drug test - he has to inject them in the elbow and if it swells up it means they are on drugs. While he’s telling them that he squirts out a little liquid and makes sure it hits them... (in the end he tells them he was kidding and most people get a kick out of it). I mean sure I do this kind of stuff, but for the sake of a hidden camera so the world can have a laugh- but he does this stuff all the time and purely for his own enjoyment. He’s nuts and I love it.

Who do you look to for inspiration?
Johnny Brennan of the Jerky Boys. Characters: AMAZING. Jokes: BRILLIANT. Balls: HUGE. It reminds me of what I aim to create: entertainment that hits you in the face and makes you excited to go tell a friend. But I get way more inspired by music than any one person. Entertainment - it’s all art - It’s a feeling. Nothing gets you to a feeling or a point of view faster than music (for me). Whether it’s choreography or character, scrolling through songs till I get to the one that makes the whole picture come together is when it gets good. The vulnerability appears, the jokes come flying out, the story falls together- it just gels...

Song currently playing in my iPod:
“Little Lover’s So Polite,” Silversun Pickups

Three songs that mean a lot to me:
“La Ritournelle,” Sebastien Tellier
“Mama Said Knock You Out,” LL Cool J
“Elk Hunt” from “The Last of the Mohicans” Soundtrack
“Bad As They Seem,” Hayden
(That was 4. I break rules.)

Ever feel that certain song lyrics were written with you in mind? What are they?:
No, but I have felt like lyrics moved me and were very relatable:
“23,” Jimmy Eat World
“Father And Daughter,” Paul Simon
“Supermodel,” RuPaul

Guilty pleasure TV show
”Elimidate: -I can’t help watching it because it is THE MOST amazing character study on individuals who are in EXTREMELY self-conscious and egotistical states. But still it just kills me that there are people out there who think it’s actually cool or reflects any impressive, normal way of pursuing another person. The worst is when you actually meet someone whose whole personality is clearly inspired by these shows -- like she actually bought it and thinks that being sassily quippy is impressive to anyone. Yes, I’ve seen this. And no, they don’t like it when you call them on it... and they really don’t like it when they find out you’ve been sticking pieces of chewed gum to their arm the whole time you were talking to them while they thought you were just grabbing their arm for emphasis...

Best hangover remedy?
Beating up your ex-girlfriends new boyfriend. I’ve never done it, but I bet there’s no better feeling.

What's the biggest upside of the Internet and what is its biggest downside?
The upside is that it is the most pure, instant, unswayable audience the world has ever known. Your stuff is either good, or not. People pass it on, or not. Everyone in the world now has a fair shake at becoming a known entertainer. There is absolutely no downside to an unending source of information sharing. It bugs me to hear people blame the internet for this or that. The internet doesn’t cause problems - inadequate parenting or poor self-control causes problems.

What advice would you give to someone trying to break into your profession?
My advice: go on the show Elimidate. There ya go. You’re headed for the stars baby.

Do you have a dream project?:
Me, Michael McDonald, Sacha Baron Cohen, Corey Holcomb, Will Ferrell, Nick Swardson, Mikey Day, Clifford McGee, Johnny Brennan, Johnny Depp, Dave Chappelle, my dad, and Sarah Silverman all sit around for 2 months and make sketch video after sketch video along with public prank videos and then we throw ‘em all together for a 2 hour movie. And at some point in the movie we are all walking in slow motion down an alleyway to bad-ass music. It makes 3 billion opening weekend and then next day I blow my brains out and die a legend. Booya. There you go.

What helps you get out of bed in the morning?:
Adriana Lima standing there naked with a suitcase full of 40 million dollars- but that hasn’t happened as much as I’d like so I usually have to gather myself and do the whole “ok what am I gonna accomplish and let’s get excited about it” thing before I get up.

Who was your celebrity crush growing up?
Adriana Lima

Are there any activities you do to make you feel un-famous?
Um, I’m definitely not at the point where I get noticed in public so I still get really stoked when anyone recognizes me at all (especially when it’s for my PUNCHROBERT.COM videos and not some movie). Usually nobody recognizes me at all but I do get the “do I know him from TV or did I kick his ass when I was younger” look a lot.

What’s more dangerous: a mountain lion or a bitter ex?
C’mon, a mountain lion.

What is the real reason behind answering these questions?
VA - NI - TY. And hopefully Adriana Lima will read it and be like, “Awwwwww, he’s so sweet and funny. I should show up at his house naked with a briefcase full of 40 million dollars.”

Five people who I'd like to see answer this survey:
Um I think God would be interesting, Wade Robson, Will Ferrell, my kindergarten girlfriend Ashley Cope would be cool to see what happened to her, and Lion-O (it’s a Thundercats thing don’t ask.)

[Due to copyright laws, I can't show you the photos, but at most of these events, he was dressed very casually, with his hair down in front, or with that baseball hat he likes to wear with a little bit of his bangs showing. He was the most dressed up for the InStyle party where he was wearing a white collared shirt with a gray sweater vest, the MTV Movie Awards, which I'm sure you've seen what he was wearing, and the premiere for the Hannah Montana movie where he was wearing a casual black double-breasted jacket over a white tshirt and dark jeans. In most of the photos, he was wearing a long brownish beaded necklace but I can't tell what it is.]

The Dancing Chef

Apparently, Rob has a personal chef, Lovejoy Cole III, aka The Dancing Chef. Doesn't surprise me, since I've never heard him say he likes to cook and he can't eat pizza everyday. Unless he has a ninja-like metabolism.

Why Do You Dance?

This question was asked by Sarah Smith in an article for dancestage.com. Here's the blurb with Rob:

I asked the question to Robert James Hoffman III. "Why do you dance?" He said, "Revenge". I laughed and he said, "I'm not kidding. Revenge. On everyone. I dance out of anger. Take it or leave it." When I sat back and thought about it I understood it and I loved it. I can't say that I always dance out of anger but I definitely have and it feels amazing!! For me, the dancers who catch my eye aren't always the most flexible or do the most turns, it's the dancers who let me into there heart and soul. Which I have to say Robert James Hoffman III does.

I'm not sure when the article was writtten, or when the interview was conducted, but at the bottom of the page it does say copyright 2009. Click here to read the entire article and the interviews with the other dancers and a bio of Sarah (typos are her's).

Twitter Posts as of 6/5/09

The best way to read these is to start at the bottom and read up. Otherwise, you're going backwards in time... I've added notes and tweets from other people Rob has tweeted with [all in brackets] but it won't make any sense unless you read from the bottom. I've kept conversations and replies together so they make sense as you're reading them.

And I'm totally amazed at how quickly Rob is amassing tweeps. About a week ago, he had about 4000+ and it's now almost 7000. Wow! Hopefully he'll start updating it hourly like Ashton Kutcher because we all want to know when he picks his nose and what he had for breakfast.
